Pelvic Pain in Pregnancy & Postpartum Recovery | AlignBirth Expert Support

Nov 05, 2025

So many women are told that pelvic pain is “just part of pregnancy.”
But common doesn’t mean normal — and it definitely doesn’t mean nothing can be done.

Pelvic pain is a sign your body is asking for support and balance.
When we understand what’s really happening — and learn how to work with it — we can create space, reduce pain, and prepare for birth with more confidence.

🤰 Prenatal: Understanding Pelvic Pain & Finding Balance

Pelvic pain during pregnancy can show up in many forms — a dull ache at the front of the pelvis (often called SPD or Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction), sharp pain between the legs (lightning crotch), hip or sacral pain, or even nerve discomfort (sciatica).

While hormones like relaxin soften the ligaments to prepare your body for birth, this increased mobility means your pelvis needs muscular stability to stay balanced.
That’s where the trouble starts — when some muscles overwork while others switch off.

Here’s what often contributes to pelvic pain:

  •  Soft tissue tension: tightness around the hips and glutes pulls the pelvis out of alignment.
  •  Core imbalance: abdominal separation or poor core activation leaves the pelvis unsupported. (Members check out Module 1: Birth Ed Breath - Pelvic Floor Activation - Breathing Drill)
  •  Restricted breathing: short, shallow breaths prevent the diaphragm from expanding fully — and because your diaphragm and pelvic floor move together, this limits your pelvic floor’s ability to function properly
  •  Constant clenching: gripping the glutes or holding tension in the pelvic floor makes it tighter, not stronger — and can actually increase pain.

A healthy pelvic floor isn’t one that’s constantly squeezed; it’s not Just “Kegels” it’s one that moves through full range — strong, flexible, and responsive.

That’s exactly why the AlignBirth Pelvic Stability Programme focuses on mobility + strength + release — retraining the tissues around the pelvis to move in harmony. The 4 week programme has 2 x strength circuits & 1 x stretch circuit + the best part? As a member of AlignBirth you can reach out to me directly for more specific support. If an exercise doesn’t feel quite right for your symptoms, we can adapt & modify! It’s the perks of being a member - we are there to support you!

As you work through AlignBirth’s yoga, movement & exercise sessions, you’ll work through functional movement patterns that improve stability, while learning to coordinate your breath (360° diaphragmatic breathing) so your core and pelvic floor support each other — naturally.

Inside AlignBirth, this isn’t just theory — it’s practice, repetition, and awareness working together to rebuild confidence in your body.

🤱 Postnatal: Why Proper Rehab Matters

After birth, the pelvic floor, core, and hips need time — and the right kind of movement — to heal.
Without guided recovery, many women continue to experience:

  •  Pelvic pain or instability
  •  Lower back or hip tension
  •  Leakage when coughing, sneezing, or exercising

The First 6 Weeks Postnatal Programme begins with release and reconnection — breathwork, gentle mobility, and postural resets — before progressing into the 10-week Postnatal Rehab Programme that rebuilds true strength and coordination.

This isn’t about “bouncing back.”
It’s about restoring balance to the systems that support your pelvis, spine, and pelvic floor — for comfort now and resilience long-term.

Your body was designed to adapt — but it needs the right support to thrive.
Pelvic pain isn’t something to “just accept.”
It’s your body asking for awareness, balance, and care — and when you give it that, everything changes.

Movement, breath, and connection are your tools to restore stability — and confidence.

I’m with you in this — every step of the way.
